“Your lower self is who you think you are. Your Higher Self is who you truly are. Learn to use your lower self to return to your Higher Self. ” ~ Luminita D. Saviuc
Who is Your Higher Self
Two of my favorite lines from the New and Old Testament come from the Book of Psalms and The Book of John.
“I have said, ‘You are gods; you are all sons of the Most High.’” ~ Psalm 82:6
“Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I have said you are “gods”’?” ~ John 10:34
When I first read these words I was in awe: You mean to say I am God? You mean to say we are all God?
What a bold statement! A blasphemy, especially for those who keep their God locked in a temple and can’t recognize His presence anywhere else but their sacred books and churches…
But I want my God to be free! So I ask myself day and night:
How can I know this to be true? How can I surrender and become one with my God? How can I become God?
To know a truth mentally – by rationalizing it, is one thing. To know it spiritually – by experiencing it, is another. The great Persian poet Rumi knew this to be true:
“Those who don’t feel this Love pulling them like a river, those who don’t drink dawn like a cup of spring water or take sunset like supper, those who don’t want to change, let them sleep. This Love is beyond the study of theology, that old trickery and hypocrisy. If you want to improve your mind that way sleep on. I’ve given up on my brain. I’ve torn the cloth to shreds and thrown it away. If you’re not completely naked wrap your beautiful robe of words around you, and sleep.” ~ Rumi
This Love is beyond the study of theology. It is beyond the understanding of the mind and the grasping of the intellect.
To know God is not the same as to hear about God. The whole world has heard of God, but only a handful of people have truly realized God.
Those who think and think about God have a lot of ideas about who God is but no direct experience. Because God is love. And the way to God and your Higher Self is through the heart and not the mind.
When the Self Longs to Return to Its Self
“You need seek God neither below or above. He is no farther away than the door of the heart.” ~ Meister Eckhar
So how can I use my mind to enter my heart and reach the God in me? How can I use the lower self to return to my Higher Self? How can I become one with the truth spoken by Jesus and the prophets: You are gods; you are all sons of the Most High?
Since I can’t be satisfied with simply knowing a truth this big intellectually, I seek to use my mind to reach my heart and unite with God and become one with God.
I can’t help myself.
Just like the Psalmist, my soul longs to know this truth. It “thirsteth for God, for the living God.” And it continues to ask me: “When shall I come and appear before God?” ~ Psalm 42:2
Day and night, my soul longs to return Home to the Source of all things and drink from the fountain of Love. It longs to say: I love God. I know God. I am God. And I say to her:
“Why are you cast down, O my soul, and why are you in turmoil within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise him, my Savior and my God” ~ Psalm 42:5
This God is not the God fashioned by man in his image and likeness. But the true God of love, who dwells in the center of our hearts and patiently waits for our return. But as it is so beautifully written in A Course in Miracles,
“God calls and you do not hear, for you are preoccupied with your own voice.” ~ A Course in Miracles
If we are too preoccupied with our own rigid concepts and fixed beliefs about who and what God is, we will pass by our own God Self and not realize that the God we are seeking is not out there but within ourselves.
Making the Shift from Lower Self to Your Higher Self
“Not-knowing is true knowledge. Presuming to know is a disease. First realize that you are sick; then you can move toward health.” ~ Lao Tzu, Tao Te Ching
One day, tired of my own ignorance, I gave up all rigid concepts and fixed ideas about who God was and allowed myself to be taught who God is!
I no longer wanted to live in darkness and pretend that I can see. And now, just like that song, I cheerfully sing: I was blind but now I see. I was lost and now I am found...
Albert Einstein called the intuitive mind a sacred gift. And added that the rational mind was a faithful servant. In its blind ignorance, humanity has begun to worship the rational mind – the servant and started defiling the divine – the intuitive mind.
What a great loss humanity has suffered. To be divine and continue to reject the God in you. To be God and play the role of the fool, as Emerson once said it, is a great loss indeed.
“When they think that they know the answers, people are difficult to guide. When they know that they don’t know, people can find their own way.” ~ Lao Tzu
To let go of our pride and ignorance, requires a great level of humility and surrender. It requires a bowing of the mind to the wisdom of the heart and a dropping of our ego and prideful self. But the majority of people don’t want to do it. They don’t want to let go of their little self and let their Higher Self lead the way.
What a great loss.
In recognizing that we don’t know, we are brought face to face with our ignorance and we can let it go. But if we hold onto it as if it were a great treasure, we delay our return to our Higher Self and we continue to suffer needlessly.
Be still and know that God is Your Higher Self
He says, “Be still, and know that I am God.” ~ Psalm 46:10
Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field, as Rumi discovered; a sacred space where truth is always present in its perfect purity and untouched by the errors of the world.
This is where your God Self/ Higher Self rests and finds its Being.
In the center of your being, in the heart of all hearts, there you can find the Light of all lights. This is the Light of the world, your Higher Self; the God part of you that gives life to the body but is not the body.
How can you know this to be true? You look inside your Self and see. Stillness is the way.
When the mind is quiet and the heart is at peace, you can hear your Higher Self, the God in you speak to you, calling your name and wanting you to remember the greatest truth of all: You are gods; you are all sons of the Most High.
The way back to your Higher Self is through stillness.
Still your mind and all your senses. Be still and know that I Am God, your Higher Self. Be still and allow yourself to be taught by God himself… by your own Higher Self.
Forget about what the world wants and expects from you and ask the God in you to lead the way. To guide you, not in the direction the mind thinks you should go, but in the direction the heart knows you are meant to go
You are a part of God and YOU are God. Ask all of yourself…
P.S. What a beautiful thing it is to be in the world and realize that you are not of this world. To know that your nature is love and your origin is divine and that who you are is unlimited, eternal and divine. Don’t you think?
