“The power for creating a better future is contained in the present moment: You create a good future by creating a good present.” ~ Eckhart Tolle
I used to dream of a better future for myself and my family. I’d imagine what it would be like to live a life that seemed so far out of the bounds of my reality.
I wondered what it would be like to be able to quit my dead end job that made me feel trapped in a life that kept me poor, unhappy, unfulfilled, and become financially free doing the things I loved. I’d be able to take care of my family and give them the things I never had growing up in poverty.
Then something happened.
I broke. I wanted to give up. I was so filled up with contempt for the life I was leading and lost all control. I fell into a very dark place and stopped caring about everything. I needed to find a way to let go of the restrictions that kept me nailed to a life that I no longer could stand.
Something had to change or I wasn’t sure I could go on. The only thing stopping me from completely going under was my daughter. Seeing the smile on her face and the way she looked at me, gave me the warmth and strength to carry on.
She was the light that pushed me forward and helped me wake up.
One day I decided I had had enough. I had to change my life. I had to stop dreaming and start doing. I had to step up to the plate and be the change I used to dream about. I couldn’t stand the thought of my little girl growing up and looking at life with the negative perception I had always known.
That’s when I vowed to do everything in my power to reach for my dreams and keep reaching for as long as it took.
That was about 4 years ago now. Since then, I’ve attained a bachelors degree in business, started three blogs, found my purpose, discovered courage within I never knew I had, and discovered my passion for wanting to make a difference in the world and in the lives of others.
My life perspective has completely changed. I now look at the world and see unlimited possibilities for the future. Whenever I imagine something for my future, I see it as an achievable goal, and I make a plan to go after it.
I wake up each morning with a sense of joy because I know that today is wonderful and the actions I take will bring me one small step closer to the future I desire. I know that by following my dreams, I’m setting my little girl up to follow hers and believe in the unlimited possibilities that await her.
I am still far from living the life that I envision for my family, but it creeps closer every day.
The changes I have made in my life have helped me to become a better person for my family and those around me. I’ve been doing my best to be a positive inspiration in the world and because of it, I’m happier, healthier, and loving every minute of it.
I’ve made many changes in the past four years and continue to make more every day. I know that growth is a process that is leading me towards my goals and I see it everywhere.
It was never easy and I fell back to my old routines time and time again, but I made a commitment to myself to continue to move forward no matter what, and that has made all the difference.
How to Find the Light That Moves You Towards a Better Future
I know you must be wondering what changes I made that led me to where I am today. Hopefully, you can use these to better your own chances at moving forward on your own journey towards the future you desire.
1. No More Excuses
I made a conscious choice to stop making excuses for how hard it would be to reach for something that seemed so far away. I made it a point to change my mindset and become more positive. I did this by searching out various inspirational blogs and books and completely immersed myself in the positivity and encouragement they brought. Whenever the negative feelings of depression, fear, or laziness came to the surface of my thoughts, I was able to use the inspiration as a tool to move past those feelings and continue on.
2. Plan of Action
I needed a plan otherwise I would just end up running around in circles in my mind and more than likely give up before I got anywhere. I took the advice of a friend to write about what I wanted my life to be like in three years. That included me reaching my goals and achieving my dreams, whether it would happen or not.
I also started writing down daily task lists every single day for what I wanted to accomplish and checked off the ones I was able to complete.
I began paying more attention to my overall well being because I knew that my chances of success were greater if my body, mind, and spirit were more aligned. I started a workout routine, making better nutritional choices, and meditating more and more until it became a daily habit.
As a result, my health and wellness improved, which led to increased focus, clarity, and positive outlook. That all led to increased motivation and momentum to keep moving forward.
3. Support
Another HUGE factor that contributed to my success was the support I received along the way. It is almost impossible to go it alone. I reached out to those inspirational blog owners and started developing relationships with them.
Some of them are now my friends. I found groups on Facebook of people who were on a similar journey for change and we helped each other with accountability, support, and motivated each other to keep the pace. Having others that support you and you them are essential to keep the negativity of the naysayers from bringing you down.
You can start using these methods to help you move towards a better future for yourself and your family as well.
I want you to look at life like I now do. I want you to see the possibilities that await you if you just learn to grasp them.
Change comes in different forms for everyone and it’s up to you to take the actions to grow through them and use them to better your life and your future.
I want to hear what changes you’ve made or are going to make so you can reach for the future and live for today. Please share your thoughts and we can learn, change, and grow with each other.
