What is Love? A Different Way of Looking at Love

What is love if not the essence of our being and the truth of who we all are…” ~ Luminita D. Saviuc

Have you ever wondered why is it that every human being in this world wants to love and be loved? Why every human being wants to have love in their lives and why, no matter how many times they fall down and get hurt in the name of love, they still continue to wish for love?

What is love. And what is it about love that makes it so desirable? What is it about love that we can’t seem to get enough of it?

Was D.H. Lawrence right to affirm these words?

“Those that go searching for love only make manifest their own lovelessness, and the loveless never find love, only the loving find love, and they never have to seek for it.” ~ D.H. Lawrence

What is Love?

I have been spending a lot of time alone with myself, reflecting, contemplating, meditating and connecting with my Soul at a deeper level.

I like to do that. I like to dig deep within myself because I believe that all the things we so desperately seek outside ourselves can be found in abundance within ourselves.

As a result, I started talking to my Soul a lot more (yes, that’s how “weird” I am  ) and I also started talking to the Infinite Intelligence that created this world we all live in, the Source of all things.

I started asking: what is love?

I started talking to both of them like you would talk to someone you love deeply. And in time I started to realize that the more I was engaging in beautiful and meaningful conversations with both my Soul and with the Source of all things, the more blissful I started to feel and the more love seemed to be flowing through me and towards me.

And then one day I had a realization:

What if the Source of all things, this Infinite Intelligence that created this beautiful world we all live in, is LOVE? What if this old man with a white beard that we all call differently based on our religion and based on how we were taught to call Him is nothing but LOVE?

A Different Way of Looking at Love

What if this is the real reason why we all seek LOVE?

What if this is the main reason why every human being in this world wants to love and be loved and why, no matter how many times we fall down and get hurt in the name of love, we continue to pray that love will find us?

What if love is what we are all made of and what if, by knowing love and by being the love we have a chance to become ONE with everything and everyone. We have a chance to know God and be Godlike?

This is what I have been experiencing lately.

I feel so much love for everything and everyone and it seems to me that I started feeling this way because I started connecting and conversing more and more with my Soul and with the Source of all things.

I felt the need to have these conversations because I had so much love for myself and I somehow felt worthy and deserving of becoming good friends with both my Soul and God itself.

“It is only by becoming Godlike that we can know God – and to become Godlike is to identify ourselves with the divine element which in fact constitutes our essential nature.” ~ The Perennial Philosophy

What is Love? A Different Way of Looking at Love

Not long after I had these realizations, I took Wayne Dyer’s book Excuses Begone from my shelf and to my surprise, I opened the book and found these 3 quotes that describe perfectly what I was feeling:

“Love binds everything together in perfect harmony.” ~ St. Paul

“He whom loves touches not walks in darkness.” ~ Plato

“He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” ~ 1 John 4:8

How about the last one? “He who does not love does not know God, for God is love.”?

What is Love? A Different Way of Looking at Love

We are LOVE and the reason why “Those that go searching for love only make manifest their own lovelessness, and the loveless never find love, only the loving find love, and they never have to seek for it.” is because they look outside themselves for something that is already within themselves. They think love is somewhere out there, that God is somewhere far away from where they are, when in fact, LOVE is in them, God is in them.

I don’t know if I ever used the word God in any of my posts as much as I have in this one, but don’t freak out. I’m not going to ask you to join any cult or religion. I use the word God because that’s what I was taught to call this Infinite intelligence that created the world we live in.

To quote the wise  Eckhart Tolle, “The word God has become empty of meaning through thousands of years of misuse. By misuse, I mean that people who have never even glimpsed the realm of the sacred, the infinite vastness behind that word, use it with great conviction as if they knew what they are talking about. Or they argue against it as if they knew what it is that they are denying. This misuse gives rise to absurd beliefs, assertions, and egoic delusions, such as “My or our God is the only true God, and your God is false,” or Nietzsche’s famous statement “God is dead… “

“The word God has become a closed concept. The moment the word is uttered, a mental image is created, no longer, perhaps, of an old man with a white beard, but still a mental representation of someone or something outside you, and, yes, almost inevitably a male someone or something.”

We need words to understand the meaning of things, to communicate with one another, but once we know the meaning, the words become meaningless. The same with the word God.

Once you KNOW God you no longer are attached to the word God because you know that the word doesn’t make it what IT is. Once you know God is LOVE you no longer care about the name people give to IT.

Mark Twain once said that “Kindness is a language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see.” and I would like to change kindness with love and say that Love is a language which we all can speak, a language that the deaf can hear and the blind can see. Because LOVE is the language of God and no words are needed to connect and to know God. No words are needed to love and be loved.

“God’s one and only voice is Silence.” ~ Herman Melville

What is Love? A Different Way of Looking at Love

I have come to know love and know it very well and I now have this inner knowing that what so many of us call God is nothing but LOVE. God is LOVE and since we were made in the likeness and image of God, we are also LOVE.

If that’s the case, don’t you think we’re all a little bit silly to think that my religion is better than your religion and that my God is better your God when in fact this Eternal Being is nothing but LOVE? Wanting us to LOVE and be LOVED in order to know IT and to be IT?

Something worth dwelling upon, wouldn’t you agree?
