“One of the most important things in finding your way back to yourself is letting go of this unhealthy need to please everyone around you. You have to understand that you weren’t born to be what the people in your life want you to be. You were born to be Yourself.”~ Luminita D. Saviuc
Find Your Way Back
Every single day we lose ourselves in the many roles we play, the many things we do, and in the many labels we identify ourselves with. By trying to cling to everything and everyone, and by seeking to take our value and sense of worth from outside ourselves, we slowly but surely drift away.
Life was given to us as a gift – to enjoy and appreciate, to love and to live. And by finding our way back to ourselves, back to who life created us to be, we will be able to enjoy, appreciate and live our lives to the fullest.
8 Things You Should Let Go to Find Your Way Back to Yourself
1. Let go of the need to please everyone around you.
One of the most important things in finding your way back to yourself is letting go of this unhealthy need to please everyone around you. You have to understand that you weren’t born to be what the people in your life want you to be. You were born to be Yourself. And by letting go of the need to please everyone, and by finding the courage to walk your own path, you will find your way back to yourself.
2. Let go of the need to identify yourself with what you do.
By identifying yourself with what you do – your career, your title, how much money you make, etc., you damage who you truly are at the core level, and you harm your beautiful heart and loving Soul.
If you’re serious to find your way back to yourself, and if you want to live your life in alignment with your life’s purpose, you need to let go. And you need to start perceiving yourself as a human BEing instead of a human DOing. Because just like Wayne Dyer said,
“You aren’t what you do. If you are what you do, then when you don’t…you aren’t.”
3. Let go of the identification with your unhealthy thoughts.
The mind will fabricate all kinds of unhealthy stories about who you are, what you can or cannot do, and about how you will never find your way back to yourself. And even though all these toxic and negative thoughts will seem very real and true to you, you have to learn to look beyond them.
“Don’t believe everything you think. Thoughts are just that – thoughts.”~ Allan Lokos
4. Let go of those people who no longer need, or want, to be in your life.
Desperately clinging to people who no longer need, or want, to be in your life can be a source of great suffering. And it can keep you from experiencing your own beauty and perfection. But by letting go, by allowing those you love to walk their own path and to live the life they were intended to live, you will give yourself permission to find your way back home.
“Love liberates. It doesn’t just hold—that’s ego. Love liberates. It doesn’t bind. Love says, ‘I love you. I love you if you’re in China. I love you if you’re across town. I love you if you’re in Harlem. I love you. I would like to be near you. I’d like to have your arms around me. I’d like to hear your voice in my ear. But that’s not possible now, so I love you. Go.’” ~ Dr. Maya Angelou
5. Let go of clutter.
Never get so busy gathering and taking care of all your “stuff” that you neglect yourself and your life’s path. Keep in mind that the relationship you have with yourself and your life’s path is a lot more important than the relationship you have with all your “stuff”.
Find the strength, courage, and confidence to let go of all those things that keep you from finding yourself and from living your life in alignment with your life’s purpose, and see how much better you will feel.
“Never again clutter your days or nights with so many menial and unimportant things that you have no time to accept a real challenge when it comes along. This applies to play as well as work. A day merely survived is no cause for celebration. You are not here to fritter away your precious hours when you have the ability to accomplish so much by making a slight change in your routine. No more busywork. No more hiding from success. Leave time, leave space, to grow. Now. Now! Not tomorrow!” ~ Og Mandino
6. Let go of the desire for safety and security.
You might want to keep things from changing, and you might want to feel safe and secure at all times, but the truth is that everything in this life changes, nothing ever stays the same. This is the course of nature. This is the course of life. And since you are part of nature, since you are part of life, you too are meant to go through these natural changes.
By taking the plunge into the unknown and by letting go of the desire for safety and security, you give yourself permission to live in harmony with your true nature and to put yourself back on the right path.
“To put it still more plainly: the desire for security and the feeling of insecurity are the same thing. To hold your breath is to lose your breath. A society based on the quest for security is nothing but a breath-retention contest in which everyone is as taut as a drum and as purple as a beet.” ~ Alan Watts
7. Let go of who you are to become who you were born to be.
Your true nature is fluid and expansive, constantly growing and constantly expanding. And by letting go of your identification with your body, your name, your past, your partner, family, friends, job, religion, material possessions, or any of the other things you identify yourself with, you get out of your own way and you allow yourself to become all that life intended you to become.
“When I let go of what I am, I become what I might be. When I let go of what I have, I receive what I need.” ~ Lao Tzu
8. Let go and start over.
Cleanse yourself. Release and let go of all your limitations, all the bad programming and all the negative past conditioning that has been keeping you from experiencing who you truly are, and start living life from a place of love, truth, authenticity and inner power. Let go and start over.
“Nothing in the universe can stop you from letting go and starting over.” ~ Guy Finley
And these are the things you are invited to let go in order for you to find your way back to yourself. May you be brave enough to let go so you can be free,
