5 Ways to Keep Your Self-Worth When Starting A New Relationship

“Relationships take work and sacrifice, but some things, like your self-worth and self-love, are not up for sale.” ~ Maria Parker

It’s okay to be scared of new things. It’s okay to build emotional walls around yourself because you’ve been hurt before. But, you can’t protect yourself from it forever. You can’t live in your own shadow, scared to take a step forward because someone might hurt you.

What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger. Remember that.

Most women get hurt because they lose their sense of worth in a relationship. They become something they never were and never dreamt of becoming. Love works in mysterious ways and not all of them are nice. Sometimes it can go in an entirely different direction than what you were expecting. But, you can’t be bigger than that. It all depends on you and how much you’re ready to give and what are you ready to sacrifice. And lastly, for whom are you ready to do all of that?

You can love and you will love, but you have to stay true to yourself. Sure, relationships take work and sacrifice, but some things, like your self-worth and self-love, are not up for sale. No man/woman is worth giving those things up and when you learn that, your relationship will finally have a happy ending because this time, unlike all the others, you’re not just a participator—you’re the creator of your luck.

5 Ways to Keep Your Self-Worth When Starting A New Relationship

When starting a new relationship you have to be yourself from the beginning. Don’t change for anybody’s sake. Don’t pretend to be something you’re not just for a man to like you. That’s a life you don’t want to live. You’ll get tired of it and sooner or later you’re going to crack because you’re unhappy. Then comes the heartbreak. Is it really worth it?

1. Keep your self-worth by learning to hang on to your sexual and emotional self.

Don’t lose this part of yourself because no one can understand or learn to understand your needs and your emotions like you can. You have to know what you want sexually and emotionally because a man can’t possibly know what you need. Only you can. And when you do, you can ask for it. You have to talk to your partner from the beginning and let him know what you want. Keep yourself together and you won’t fall under his spell. Just demand what you know you deserve.

2. Learn to keep your individuality.

You have to think of yourself as an individual. When you’re happy about yourself even when you’re alone, it means you are ready to start a new relationship. A man can’t fill a void that you’re feeling inside. You can ask him 100 questions on your first date to get to know him, but remember that you’re not searching for someone to complete you. You are self-sufficient and you are an individual. He is just a person you will love and cherish, but your life won’t stop and you won’t fall apart if he leaves you. Learn how to be by yourself before you jump into an adventure with someone new.

3. Keep your self-worth by learning to maintain your healthy boundaries.

Never put someone else’s needs before your own. This is not called being selfish—it’s called respecting yourself. Prioritize your needs no matter what because if it’s the other way around, he would take care of himself first. Your confidence comes from your happiness. And if you’re not happy, if you’re letting him act the way he wants only to keep him interested in you, your confidence will slowly drop. And if your confidence drops, you’ll be the perfect material to manipulate. But, you’re not. You won’t let that happen because you respect yourself too much.

4. Keep your self-worth by continuing to speak up for yourself.

You don’t need a lawyer. You don’t need someone to talk instead of you. You are smart and strong enough to fight for what you want. When you see something you want, you’ll get it one way or another. You will commit to the person you love, but you won’t give yourself entirely to him. He doesn’t have the right to make decisions in a relationship by himself. So, when you want something, express your feelings sincerely without holding back.

5. Trust yourself.

Your decisions are yours only and even if they are wrong, you are strong enough to deal with it. You’ll learn from your mistakes and you won’t be making them again. Act how you feel is right because people with high confidence never second guess their choices. This way, you’ll show him that you’re a mature adult who is not scared of anything. You only have one life and sometimes you have to take risks. Never back down because you think you can’t do something by yourself. You always have to try and knowing you, you will succeed.

Staying true to yourself is the greatest favor you can do for yourself. Trusting yourself is the only right thing you can do. No one has the right to meddle with your psyche and try to turn you into something you’re not.

You are a beautiful and unique individual and as such, you’ll have no problems finding someone who’ll respect that, someone who’ll respect you. Just don’t change. Don’t ever change.
