“The secret to living the life of your dreams is to start living the life of your dreams today, in every little way you possibly can.”~ Mike Dooley
A brand new year is upon us, and just when we think that all the stress from the holiday season is over – that mad rush that kept us running around shopping, wrapping gifts, cooking and baking leaving quite the mess behind – we find ourselves thinking about New Year’s resolutions... and what a task that is because the easy part is making them, yet keeping them can bring an entirely new set of stressors. That’s not how you want to start your best year yet!
What to Have On Your New Year’s Resolutions List?
Before this amazing year ends, we can empower ourselves by replacing the restrictive and sometimes unrealistic expectations we impose on ourselves, which leave us drained with a feeling of self-loading when we fail to accomplish them.
So, what if there were only one resolution to make, which would encompass all that you wish to attain?
Top 5 Things to Have on Your New Year’s Resolutions List
“The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret to getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks and then starting on the first one.” ~ Mark Twain
Yeap. That beautiful word is one that in and of itself will allow you to align your thoughts with your actions effortlessly. What can surrendering do for all of us? Here are the top 5 things to have on your New Year’s resolutions list, ‘resolutions’ that will turn into actual gifts that will help you fulfill your desires throughout your life.
1. Peace
The path to total peace both within and without is through complete surrender because in doing so, you put an end to opposing what is. Reconnect with the present moment!
2. Silence
Be still… your higher thoughts don’t require words. Whether you meditate, use journaling as a tool to “be with yourself”, or take a walk to take in all the beauty that surrounds you, you will be rewarded with messages from the Universe that will guide you as you align your thoughts with your actions. In turn, that becomes your compass to walk a path created by choice instead of the default.
3. Freedom
Set yourself free from all that you have chosen to worry about, including those limiting beliefs that set us up for failure; hand them over to the Universe. Of course, there is an intrinsic need for personal responsibility; however, as long as you have truly surrendered, everything will fall into place and the struggle with having control over any given situation will also cease to exist.
4. Happiness
This is a state of mind that cannot be bought or found for that matter. The key lies in embracing the present moment to its fullest and surrendering negative thoughts. When we put expectations on external things to make us happy, we are actually postponing our happiness which then leads to disappointment if what we believe will make us happy turns out not to do so. Remember that everything you need, you already have, even in spite of the twists and turns and mood changes that inevitably all of us experience at some point.
5. Feel Good
As mentioned above, outer circumstances come and go. It is for you to decide to take them or leave them. You can indeed be happy like a child whose innocence and knowledge of his/her reality comes from complete surrender to the present moment. When we acknowledge life events and focus on our inner strengths, we can finally pull away from the illusion that things, people or places are what makes us feel either good or bad. How liberating it is to know that this is something that you actually can control!
When you think of things to have on your new year’s resolutions list is to celebrate the start of a new year and embrace it, knowing that when you surrender you are actually creating the life of your dreams – which in turn will become your new reality!
Surrendering allows us to focus on what’s inside of us…now, as silly as this may sound, let’s bid farewell to 2022 with a simple gesture: make a fist and softly release the palm of your hand.
Now your body and mind are ready to receive unconditional love, true and lasting happiness, and above all, the ability to make a difference in your life as well as the lives of the people you touch.
When the here and the now dwell in you, you have found peace and the innate ability to cultivate a life where wishes and goals are fulfilled without resistance. And that is the beauty of Surrender.
“Take the first step in faith. You don’t have to see the whole staircase, just take the first step.” ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.
