18 Things I Am Still Learning

Learning is a life-long process. “Anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young.” (Henry Ford)

Learning

From everything that happens to us and all around us, there is something valuable to learn. If our eyes, ears and hearts are open, and if we are ready and willing, we will use every experience and every interaction life sends our way to become better, not bitter, wiser, not older. Because as the wise Henry Ford warned us, anyone who stops learning is old, whether at twenty or eighty. Anyone who keeps learning stays young.

What I will share with you today is a list of things I am still learning, things that I personally believe have the power to inspire and empower you to keep on learning so that you keep on growing.

18 Things I Am Still Learning

1. It’s not my job to make others happy.

This is their job. I am only responsible for my own state of being, my own happiness. If I am happy, I will bring happiness to the table. If I am unhappy, my unhappiness will be felt.

2. Being different is my strength, not my weakness.

I do not have to be as other people are. I only have to be myself. And if that means being different, I am perfectly fine with that.

3. Whether people like me or not, it does not matter.

All that truly matters is whether I LOVE and approve of myself.

4. My past does not define me.

It only enriches me and my life, helping me become wiser and kinder, and allowing me to soar to great new heights.

5. My loyalty is not to be given freely.

It has to be earned.

6. I am not who people think that I am.

I am who I know myself to be.

18 Things I Am Still Learning 6 Reasons Why Others Opinions of You Don’t Matter at All

7. I don’t always have to have it all together.

I am allowed to fall down, to make a fool of myself at times—if that’s what it takes to express my humanity, to get angry and upset.

8. I am human, and that’s okay.

I do not have to shame myself for thinking and feeling in ways that are not always kind, loving and just.

9. I don’t have to be perfect.

Nor do I have to do everything in a perfect way. I just have to pour my love into everything and be grateful for who I am.

10. It’s not a man’s job to make me happy.

This is my job! I can’t demand happiness from anyone, just as anyone can’t demand happiness from me.

11. Love liberates.

“It doesn’t just hold—that’s ego. Love liberates. It doesn’t bind. Love says, ‘I love you. I love you if you’re in China. I love you if you’re across town. I love you if you’re in Harlem. I love you. I would like to be near you. I’d like to have your arms around me. I’d like to hear your voice in my ear. But that’s not possible now, so I love you. Go.” (Maya Angelou)

12. I have a right to say ‘NO’!

To whatever, or whoever is not yet ready to receive my ‘YES’.

13. I deserve to be loved.

Not because I am ‘well behaved’, and not because of anything I say, or do. But because love is my birthright!

14. My voice was given to me for a reason.

To say the things only I can say—even if that bothers some—and say them with great courage and confidence.

15. I am never alone.

I am always guided, always protected and always held close and safe in the Heart of a Loving and Invisible Force.

16. I owe nothing to the world.

But I owe Everything to my Self: to be kind, to be loving, and to always be true and honest to the One Power that I Am.

Only truth remains the same. Hold your ground and walk in Truth—even if you have to walk alone.

18. I am Divine, and I should never be afraid.

Of anything, or anyone. For the One Power that lies within me is far greater than all the powers of the world.

And these are some of the things I am still learning. What about you? What are some of the things you are still learning?
