7 Truly Important Things Your Mother Never Told You but Should Have

“Mother knows best” is a phrase that should probably be retired because there are so many truly important thing you mother never told you, but should have.

As much as you might love her, there are definitely many crucial life lessons mother failed to pass down. At age 18, I learned these lessons the hard way as I embarked on a journey of self-development and international travel.

Things Your Mother NEVER Told You

Today, my years of experience and extensive research allow me to teach the students of my online finishing school all the things they wish they knew growing up.

These are the 7 life-changing things your mother never told you but should have.

7 Truly Important Things Your Mother Never Told You but Should Have

1. Adopt a millionaire mindset

One of the first things your mother never told you but should have is to adopt a millionaire mindset.

I’m sure you’ve met the phrase “money doesn’t grow on trees”. Unfortunately, not all of us come from an affluent family. As a result, we adopt different attitudes, behaviours and beliefs around money. You might believe that money and affluence are inherently evil, or simply that you’re not worthy of achieving much of it.

It’s time to let go of these beliefs, and realise that you’re deserving of the finer things in life. Ask yourself this: if they can have it, why can’t you?

2. Master your personal brand

How can you stand out in such a competitive environment?

The answer is: master your personal brand. Think about what your style, grooming and body language say about you. We live in a superficial world and have a short window of time to make a lasting impression. So, paying attention to the details is essential if you want to positively stand out among the crowd.

3. Set strong boundaries

Can you think of a successful woman who doesn’t set boundaries? I certainly can’t. Boundaries determine how people treat you, and how you treat yourself.

Being a doormat won’t get you very far in life, and I know this from personal experience. Once I started prioritising myself, I started being treated the way I wanted to be treated. It’s important to remember that you can be assertive and graceful at the same time. Just explain your limits, use diplomatic language and deliver your message in a pleasant tone.

Forgetting about any trends is definitely on the list of things your mother never told you. You would save so much time and effort if you simply skipped the trends. Whether it’s leg warmers or Juicy Couture tracksuits, we can all look back on the heinous fashion crimes we committed in embarrassment. Remember, whatever’s trending today will be tomorrow’s style flop.

The key to curating a classically elegant look is to invest in a classically elegant wardrobe. Focus on investing in timeless pieces and high quality clothing. It will elevate your look, as well as your impression on those around you.

5. Network, network, network

“Your network is your net worth” might sound a little cliché, but it’s very true. If you know someone, or someone who knows someone, life becomes a lot easier. I really wish I learned this earlier, because I was able to fast-track my success as soon as I took networking seriously.

Whether you aspire to advance your career, meet a potential partner or simply build meaningful friendships, networking will give you opportunities you never thought you would have. Remember, reciprocating is key when networking. Never take without giving. And this is yet another one of the many things your mother never told you, but should have.

6. Know your body type

One thing I’ve learned as a qualified image consultant is the importance of dressing for your shape. Who doesn’t want to look and feel better?

A well-fitting garment is the key to looking expensive and elegant. I spent many years dressing inappropriately for my body shape. As a result, I wasn’t highlighting my most attractive features or fulfilling my full, elegant potential. Reflect on your body type, as well as the types of garments you regularly wear.

7. Tap into your feminine energy

Tapping into your feminine energy is definitely one of the things you rmother never told you but shouldhave.

It’s no secret that we live in a man’s world. We live in a patriarchal society where honing in on your masculine energy is often thought to be the only path to success. This couldn’t be further from the truth. Feminine energy is powerful, and tapping into it is a total life hack.

Try embracing your caring instinct by nurturing friendships, hobbies, romances or work clients. It’s a valuable quality that many of us have neglected. Remember: you already hold all the tools for success, you just have to start using them!
